Overcoming Barriers to Economic Success in Rural Communities
December 11 & 12, 2008 in Frederick, Maryland.
The Rural Health Roundtable, Oct. 2-3, 2008 in Annapolis. Topic: The recruitment and retention of rural health care providers.
Western Maryland Small Town Symposium and Rural Roundtable, on April 23, 2008 in Cumberland. Topic: Green and Affordable Housing in Western Maryland
The Rural Maryland Council's major role is to provide Rural Marylanders with one voice on issues important to their standards of living and quality of life. Toward that end, we have used our Working Committees and the annual Maryland Rural Summit to form partnerships and bring together interested stakeholders to share ideas and reach consensus on possible solutions to rural concerns. After conducting a successful Rural Summit for ten years, the RMC Executive Board decided to try something new - something that retains the networking opportunities of the Summit while working with our partners to provide a more intense and tightly focused discussion on important matters.
Enter the Rural Roundtable.
Starting in 2008, the RMC will offer a series of Rural Roundtables. These will be flexible one or two day events that focus on a specific issue and designed to bring together those most interested in, and knowledgeable of an issue important to Rural Maryland. Ultimately, our goal is to develop a tangible action plan for overcoming barriers to success.
